From Opportunity to Answers
From opportunity to answers
Whenever opportunity knocks at Business Advisory Centre of Durham, Carol Ann Walker answers the door. The BACD executive director understands that prospective, new and existing entrepreneurs need more than opportunity; they need information, advice and support, too.
The BACD is the best place to find the answers they need. Consultants walk clients through each stage, from initial vision through market research and business plan development. Along the way, clients can access legal advice, a business coach and continuing education. It’s one-stop shopping. “We work with business at all four stages of development --- thinking, starting, growing and youth. Each stage brings different challenges and unique skill development requirements,” says Walker. “We help entrepreneurs to start successful and stay successful.” BACD tailors their menu of trainings to each stage of business development. Start-ups require the basics, while seasoned, growth-ready business owners build upon those skills and seek advice on strategic growth planning. Many clients also rely on regular counselling sessions with business coaches or mentors. It takes a pool of experts with specialized skills and plenty of experience. Walker draws on the BACD’s strong partnerships with business, with government, with high school and postsecondary institutions, with boards of trade and chambers of commerce to find the trainers, coaches and mentors her clients need. BACD experts don’t just teach; they also run businesses of their own. They’ve shared the same dreams, faced the same problems. They’ve found solutions and they’re willing to share them. Like Carol Ann Walker, they guide others along the road from opportunity to answers.
