Business Advisory Centre Durham and Whitby Library Partner to Support Small Business Success
Put together a huge repository of the most up-to-date business materials and resources together with ‘on the ground’ experience and expertise. Combine that with broad-based networks in business, community and government, and what have you got? A partnership designed to maximize the potential for success of new and growing small businesses in Whitby and the Durham Region.
Starting October 13th, BACD Business Advisory Centre Durham and the Whitby Public Library join forces to get new businesses started on the right foot and expand access for existing businesses to strategic management and development information and assistance with the first in a series of initiatives for small business in Durham. On that date and every second Tuesday until Christmas, BACD’s popular seminar ‘How to Start a Small Business ‘ will be presented at the Whitby Public Library.
‘It seems like such a small thing,’ says Wenda Abel, Program manager at BACD Business Advisory Centre Durham. ‘But it will make a big difference to new entrepreneurs just starting their small business. The partnership puts the most complete range of guidance, materials and resources they’ll need to plan and develop their new business all in one place. Many people tell me they are just overwhelmed and confused by all there is to know, to do. This will help them determine what’s necessary, what’s a priority to minimize the risk and maximize the success of their start-up phase...and then, find it quickly and efficiently.’
Dean Nickerson, Reference Librarian at the Whitby Public Library agrees. “ The Whitby Library has made the development of our business resource collections a key part of the Library’s strategic plan. In addition to our collections of business and business related print materials on topics that range from strategic business planning to ‘how to’ essentials like employee management and bookkeeping we have been adding an extensive range of on-line market research and marketing resources and data-bases. Having the BACD’s seminars presented in the Library means entrepreneurs get the direction and the resources they need more efficiently to get their business going more quickly...and successfully. We’re really pleased to be working with BACD to more effectively support Durham’s business community.”
